Dear 1460 supporters:
A year ago, in the wake of the national tragedy that was the 2016 Presidential election, a small group of New Yorkers came together to try to determine how we could resist the Trump agenda. Out of that 1460 was born, and we chose to focus on two things:
1. Promoting democratic values that reflect who we are as a nation.
To do this, we have sent you daily actions for nearly 300 days that offer specific, concrete things an individual can do to resist the Trump agenda.
2. Promoting "new blue" next generation leaders in New York and around the country who are committed to our nation's values.
To do this we staged the January 2017 Anti-Inaugural Ball, which raised over $100,000 to support the training of progressive candidates, and have offered additional volunteer and fundraising support to individual candidates since that event.
It's now a year later, and we find ourselves in a landscape crowded with amazing organizations working to oppose the Trump agenda and support a new generation of progressive leaders in America. So we are readjusting our focus.
In terms of daily actions there are fantastic groups like 5 Calls and Daily Action whose work we feel we are duplicating. We urge you to join and support them.
In terms of electing progressive leaders wonderful groups like Swing Left and Sister District are mobilizing volunteers and funds to support progressive candidates. We urge you to get involved with those efforts.
So what will 1460 do? Going forward, 1460 will not issue daily actions but will instead focus on our second goal of promoting "new blue" next generation leaders in New York and belong. We will send out periodic updates about candidates we have vetted and trust to whom we hope you will donate your time and money to support. Should you have a candidate for local, state or federal office you'd like us to consider supporting, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
After last week's elections many of us are breathing a sigh of relief. But now is not the time to relax, but instead is the time to redouble our efforts as the crucial 2018 midterm elections are less than a year away.
Thank you for being part of 1460.
